About The Artist
Being blessed with natural talent, and a self-taught pyrographer, I come from an industrious family, many of whom to this day, still practice some of the oldest, purest and nearly lost art forms passed down by previous generations. It was only after many years of pencil sketching, that I chose a different path of creative expression in the art of pyrography.
Around 1988, I bought a very ornate 1920s Flemish Art ladies hair ribbon box at an estate auction. Intrigued by the dimension and depth of the woodburned design, I purchased a single unit Glastar Hot Tool with a universal tip and set forth to give it a try. Almost immediately, it became my passion and addiction. Having worked some with acrylic paints, I've come to the conclusion that no other form of media comes close in comparison to the depth and dimension achieved with pyrography. To me, it is the perfect way to portray the personality and wonder of wildlife, people and nature.
I spend ample time in researching the subjects of special requests, to ensure integrity of image, theme and graphics. My next step in the process is to make a rough sketch on paper and after that, an outline of the image is drawn on the wood surface. Then comes the burning- first the outline, followed by all the detail work. Color, if requested and several coats of finish are last in the process. I still use the Glastar Hot Tool and universal tips for all my work.
Within my gallery pages you'll find pyrographed fine art plaques, keepsake wooden photo albums, cigar box purses and more..... all custom designed from requests of people with a desire to celebrate and preserve the memory of life’s special occasions.
I hope to have the pleasure of working with you to develop a unique timeless heirloom for yourself or the special people in your life.
